Tesla hat das Heck des überarbeiteten Model S bewusst zurückhaltend gestaltet. Der Carbonfaser-Heckdiffusor von Adro ist die Lösung für Besitzer, die die klaren Linien des Fahrzeugs bewahren wollen und gleichzeitig das visuelle Gewicht und die aerodynamische Absicht hinzufügen möchten, die das Werksdesign zurückhält. Aggressive Finnen, tiefe Kanäle und eine geformte untere Fläche verwandeln eine ansonsten flache Heckschürze in etwas, das endlich zur Leistung darunter passt.
Das Bauteil selbst ist aus echtem Prepreg-Carbonfaser gefertigt — derselbe Herstellungsprozess wie bei Motorsport-Karosserieteilen — für ein Bauteil, das steifer, leichter und formstabiler ist als das nass verarbeitete Carbon, das bei günstigeren Alternativen verwendet wird. Das Gewebe ist gerade, das Harz gleichmäßig verteilt, und die autoklavgehärtete Oberfläche besitzt einen tiefen, glasglatten Glanz, der Teslas Lackierung ergänzt, statt ihr zu widersprechen.
Unter der Oberfläche ist dies ein richtig konstruiertes Bauteil. Adro hat den Unterboden des Model S mit 3D-Scans erfasst und die Diffusor-Geometrie mittels CFD-Simulation verfeinert, um die Finnenwinkel und das Austrittsprofil zu optimieren. Das Ergebnis ist ein Teil, das den Luftstrom unter dem Fahrzeug glättet, Turbulenzen am Heck bei hohen Geschwindigkeiten reduziert und einen messbaren Beitrag zur Hochgeschwindigkeitsstabilität leistet — nicht nur eine optische Verkleidung.
