Q: What is a swan neck wing mount and why is it better?

A: A standard rear wing uses uprights that attach underneath the wing element, which disrupts airflow on the lower surface - the side that generates downforce. A swan neck mount attaches from above, leaving the lower surface completely clean for maximum aerodynamic efficiency. This produces more effective downforce for the same wing size compared to a conventionally mounted wing.

Q: What is pre-preg carbon fibre?

A: Pre-preg (pre-impregnated) carbon fibre is the highest grade of carbon fibre construction. Unlike wet-lay carbon (where resin is applied by hand during layup), pre-preg sheets come with precisely measured resin already embedded. They are cured under heat and pressure in an autoclave, producing a denser, lighter and stronger laminate with a consistent, flawless finish. This is the standard used in Formula 1 and GT racing.

Q: Does this wing generate real downforce or is it purely aesthetic?

A: The AT-R1 generates real aerodynamic downforce. The wing profile, swan neck mount geometry and end plate design are all engineered to produce meaningful downforce at road-legal and track speeds. It is not a decorative item - it is a functional aerodynamic component that will influence the handling balance of your M3 at higher speeds.

Q: Is the wing angle adjustable?

A: Yes. The aluminium uprights allow the wing angle (angle of attack) to be adjusted. A higher angle generates more downforce and drag; a lower angle reduces drag at the cost of downforce. This allows you to tune the wing for road use, track days, or circuit-specific setups.

Q: What is included in the kit?

A: The kit includes: pre-preg carbon fibre wing deck, aluminium uprights (pair), pre-preg carbon fibre flat end plates (pair), carbon fibre reinforcement plates (pair), 3M tape and all mounting hardware.

Q: Is professional installation recommended?

A: Yes. While the mounting system is designed to be straightforward, this is a structural aerodynamic component and any fitment errors will affect both performance and vehicle safety. We strongly recommend professional installation, ideally by an AUTOID-partnered fitter. An installation guide is in development and will be available shortly.

Q: Is this available for the E90 saloon or E93 convertible?

A: The primary fitment is the E92 coupe. The E90 saloon and E93 convertible may be compatible but have different boot lid geometry - please contact us to confirm fitment before ordering.
