What is the difference between a CS-style spoiler and a competition wing for BMW?

A CS-style rear spoiler is a boot lid lip spoiler that integrates with the car's roofline, mirroring the design language of BMW's own CS models. It adds moderate downforce and significant visual presence without departing from the car's factory aesthetic. A competition wing (or swan neck rear wing, as on the TREVORA TR87) is a larger, fully standalone aero component mounted above the boot lid, producing significantly more downforce and a more aggressive, motorsport-inspired appearance.
Are carbon spoilers heavier or lighter than gloss black ABS spoilers?

Pre-preg carbon spoilers are significantly lighter than ABS gloss black alternatives. A pre-preg carbon spoiler typically weighs 50–70% less than an equivalent ABS item. For most road car applications this weight saving is minor in absolute terms, but it contributes to the overall weight reduction programme of a performance-focused build.
How are rear spoilers installed?

Most CS-style boot lid spoilers use pre-applied 3M VHB double-sided tape and an adhesive promoter for installation - no drilling required and installation is achievable at home in under 20 minutes. Competition wings that require a structural mounting to the boot lid may require drilling and should be professionally installed.
Do carbon spoilers affect my BMW warranty?

Fitting a genuine BMW M Performance spoiler carries no warranty risk. Aftermarket carbon or gloss black spoilers are cosmetic modifications - they do not interact with any vehicle systems and in most cases will not affect warranty coverage. We recommend confirming with your BMW dealer if you have specific warranty concerns.
