Frequently asked questions

Is Milltek compatible with further modifications like a remap or intake upgrade?

Yes. Milltek exhausts are highly compatible with stage 1 and stage 2 ECU tuning packages, intake upgrades and hybrid turbo systems. Their increased flow capacity provides a solid foundation for further performance work and many tuners specifically reference Milltek exhausts in their tune packages.

Are Milltek exhausts ECE approved and road legal?

Most Milltek Sport exhaust systems are ECE approved or carry equivalent certifications for road use in European markets. Some performance variants (such as those with OPF/GPF removal) are designated for off-road and track use only. The certification status is clearly stated on each product page.

Does a Milltek exhaust require professional installation?

Most Milltek cat-back and GPF-back systems can be installed at home by experienced owners with suitable ramps or a pit. However, systems that require cutting of the original exhaust (as specified on certain models) should be installed by a professional to ensure the cut is made at the correct point. AUTOID offers fitting at our Brentwood, Essex facility.

What is the difference between a resonated and non-resonated Milltek exhaust?

A resonated Milltek exhaust includes an additional internal resonator chamber in the mid-section of the system. The resonator absorbs certain sound frequencies to produce a deeper, more refined tone with less rasp and drone at motorway speeds. A non-resonated system removes this chamber, producing a louder, more aggressive sound with more character at all speeds - but potentially more resonance at cruise. Most buyers choose based on their intended use: resonated for daily driving, non-resonated for a more track-oriented sound.

Milltek's approach to exhaust engineering begins with the vehicle, not with a universal design template. Every system is developed for a specific chassis - measured, tested on dyno, validated on road and fine-tuned for sound character before release. The result is an exhaust that sounds like it was meant for that car, not adapted from something else.

Our Milltek range covers cat-back exhaust systems, axle-back upgrades, GPF/OPF-back systems (the most popular option for modern turbocharged BMWs), high-flow sports cat downpipes and large-bore downpipe systems. Resonated and non-resonated configurations give you control over the final sound profile and valved systems allow you to switch between quiet daily driving and an open, aggressive exhaust note at the touch of a button.
