A combined 717bhp / 738lb-ft of torque. The 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 & electric motor (S68B44T0) will feature a plug-in hybrid battery motor alongside the combustion engine. The combustion engine produced 577bhp with 553 lb-ft of torque alongside the electric motor set up putting out 194bhp with 207lb-ft of torque.

Why does the G90 M5 weigh so much?

The new BMW M5 G90 weighs so much because it has a plug-in hybrid setup. This adds about 400 kilograms (882 pounds) to the car. The battery pack itself weighs 18.6 kWh. BMW decided to go with a plug-in hybrid instead of a regular hybrid because they wanted the “full advantage of electrification”. A regular hybrid system would have added 150-200 kg of weight.

How does the G90 M5 handle?

Agile on the track despite added weight according to Remove before Race. Raz is impressed with how the M5 handled on the track, despite its added weight from the hybrid system. He said that the car felt very agile and responsive, and that the rear wheel steering helped with handling.

The M5 is praised for its comfortable ride, even in sport plus mode. BMW Blog highlights that it doesn't feel overly stiff and maintains a good balance between sportiness and comfort. When will the new BMW G90 M5 be available?

Production for the G90 M5 sedan is expected to begin in July 2024, with deliveries arriving with customers in November 2024. The G99 M5 Touring is expected to follow suit with production starting in November 2024.

Modifications for the BMW G90 M5

AUTOID are working hard in the background to offer styling and performance modifications for this new M5.

Working with our partners we should see some performance modifications such as tuning modules, carbon air intakes, adjustable lowering springs and exhaust systems.

As market leaders in OEM quality aftermarket carbon fibre aero kits, we’ve heard that TRE will be producing a styling kit for the G90 M5. Including Front Splitter, Rear Diffuser, Side Skirts, Rear Spoilers. Alongside some interior modifications such as magnetic shift paddles we’ve come to love on all our builds here at AUTOID.

We should be seeing premium alloy wheel brand HRE opening new moulds and applications for the G90 M5 in mono block forged and split rim variants.
