Top 3 Modifications to wake up your BMW G87 M2

Top 3 Modifications to wake up your BMW G87 M2 - AUTOID®

The BMW G87 M2 is a monster out of the factory. Housing the legendary 3.0 litre S58 twin turbo inline six engine, it delivers serious performance straight off the showroom floor. However, modern factory regulations, quiet exhaust routing (especially with OPF/GPF filters in Europe and the UK), and conservative engine tuning leave plenty of potential locked away.

To unlock the full character of the S58, we took Nath's G87 M2 into the workshop for three foundational performance upgrades. Here are the top three mods that completely transform the driving experience through sound, throttle response, and overall power increase of the G87 M2.

Watch us fit these modifications to our BMW G87 M2:

1. Eventuri V2 Carbon Fibre Air Intake System

Primary Benefit: Improved airflow efficiency, instant throttle sharpness, and rich induction/turbo spool sounds.

The stock intake system on the G87 M2 is designed to suppress induction noise and fit within tight packaging, restricting airflow into the twin turbochargers.

Replacing it with the Eventuri V2 Carbon Fibre Intake does two major things:

  • Aerodynamic Airflow: Eventuri’s patented reverse cone filter housings smooth out airflow turbulence, delivering a continuous supply of cool air directly into the engine.
  • Acoustic Feedback: You get the intoxicating swoosh of the turbos building boost and that distinct dump every time you step off the throttle under load, something entirely absent on the factory setup.

Plus, the visual upgrade under the hood with pre-preg carbon fibre makes the engine bay look like a true motorsport piece.

2. Milltek Sport Cat-Back Exhaust with Single Mid-Pipe

Primary Benefit: Deeper tone, increased volume under load, and elimination of the muffled stock exhaust sound.

Modern M cars are notoriously quiet due to factory exhaust resonators and gasoline particulate filters. To give the S58 the aggressive voice it deserves, Nath’s M2 was fitted with a Milltek Sport Cat Back Exhaust system featuring a single mid pipe.

Why the single mid pipe design?

  • Tone over Rasp: Combining the two bank pipes into a single mid pipe changes the frequency of the exhaust gas flow, smoothing out high pitched rasp and replacing it with a deeper, throatier tone.
  • Volume on Demand: In Comfort mode with the valves closed, it remains civilised for daily driving. Switch to Sport or Sport Plus with the valves open, and the exhaust snaps alive with pops, crackles, and an aggressive roar.

3. MMX Performance Tuning Box

Primary Benefit: Significant horsepower and torque gains without complex ECU bench unlocking procedures.

With the engine breathing easier on the intake side and exhaling freely through the Milltek exhaust, the final piece of the puzzle is engine management.

The MMX Performance Tuning Box plugs directly into factory sensors to safely optimise boost pressure, fueling, and ignition timing:

  • Plug and Play Simplicity: It bypasses the need to remove or bench unlock the factory ECU, making it an accessible route for extra power.
  • Mid Range Punch: The additional torque completely changes how the car pulls in second and third gears, eliminating low end lag and pulling hard all the way to redline.

Key Result

Intake

Eventuri V2 Carbon Fibre Intake

Faster spool, lower intake temps, loud induction noises. Estimated 13-18 Hp and 16-21 Nm of torque.

Exhaust

Milltek Cat Back with Single Mid Pipe

Muffled tone replaced with deep, aggressive exhaust note. Estimated +15-20 Hp and 20–34 Nm of torque.

Tuning

MMX Tuning Box

Unlocks horsepower & mid range torque. Estimated +100 Hp / +100 Nm of torque.

Combining intake, exhaust, and piggyback tuning creates a synergistic effect. The G87 M2 transforms from a refined, quiet cruiser into a razor sharp, loud, and responsive driver's car, without sacrificing daily drivability or comfort.
